. The Congo, a territory in Africa larger than Western Europe, with a non-existent
social/political infrastructure, had voted for independence from Belgium but fell apart within
days under a lethal cocktail including colonialism, the lure of its vast mineral
resources, and the power struggle of the Cold War

. Pro-Castro demonstrations took place in New York and in Mexico City

. The first Polaris guided missiles were launched from a nuclear
submarine, the George Washington, off Cape Canaveral

. Ban the H-Bomb protestors were removed by police in Yorkshire,
England - observing strict gender rules when you look at the image

. Mrs Sirima Bandaranaike of Ceylon become the worlds first woman
Prime Minister
