hip0014189 - The 'Door of no Return', Goree Island, Senegal. Goree is a small 45-acre land mass located just off the coast of Senegal, near the capital, Dakar. This building is supposedly where Africans were kept in chains before being packed onto ships and sent to the New World as slaves. The Atlantic Ocean can be seen through the small door under the arch which the slaves would have passed through, leaving Africa for ever.
