PANAMA Canal
British seafarer inside the cargo hold of the BNFL (British Nuclear Fuels Limited) Pacific Swan as it transits the Panama Canal. The Pacific Swan is a specially designed ship, double hulled and crewed, which carries spent plutonium in soldified glass flasks (pictured) for re-processing in Japan. Radioactive cargos such as these are actually seventh on the list of hazardous cargos which are dealt with by the Panama Canal Commission.
