The Conneticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant at Haddam Neck the largest operating commercial nuclear power plant in the United States. The 575,000 electrical Kilowatt facility started up commercially in 1968 is operated by the Conneticut Yankee Atomic Power Company.
The building housing the generator is sheathed in aluminium panels formed in vertical fluting with a porcelain enamel finish. Its pitched roof is covered with white marble chips with oblong ventilator hoods of metallic brown crossing over the peak in parallel rows. Both these colours are accented by blue panels which cover the stations office building. The architecture and colours were chosen to harmonise as much as possible with the surrounding landscape and traditional New England Design
