There was a time, in my sensitive girlhood (when I first began to get so fat) when I was very self-conscious. I never dreamed of wearing a bathing suit. But after I'd reached a certain outsize it didn't seem to matter any more. Now you'll find me on the beach with the rest of the girls when the sun comes out.

She has set out to do it by giving up food. Twenty years ago she ate three normal meals a day. Slowly for 12 years she reduced her eating until she was keeping fit on one meal a day of grass, chickweed, clover, dandelion and an occasional glass of fruit juice. Five years ago she switched entirely to juices and raw tomatoes, oranges, grasses and herbs. Now she drinks nothing but a glass of water flavored with a few drops of lemon juice. She says, ‘There is much more in sunlight and air than can be seen by the naked eye or with scientific instruments. The secret is to find the way to absorb that extra - that cosmic radiation - and turn it into food’.

Each year she goes to Switzerland for the better air and climbs mountains on a diet of water from the streams. ‘You see’, she explains, ‘my body cells and blood have changed considerably in composition. George, Prince of Wales, also known as the 'Prince of Whales', and later Prince Regent and George IV, picking his teeth with a table fork, having demolished a heavy meal and a lot of wine. The Prince was notoriously dissolute and spendthrift. His room is littered with empty bottles, pills and unpaid bills. His passion for gambling is indicated by dice, lists of horse races and accounts of his losses at cards. Foreigners could not believe that it was possible to ridicule the morals and manners of the heir to the throne in this way. In their eyes such prints confirmed the British reputation for free speech and liberty. The contrast between the delicate and refined medium and the Prince's gross figure further ridicules him. There is nothing unusual about criticism of the British royal family, though the extravagances of George, Prince of Wales gave particular cause for concern. 2005
NATIONAL PICTURES.When his wife swam away in embarrassment after he broke a chair and toppled into the pool on holiday, fattie Donald Bullock decided it was time to fight the flab. The 26 stone transport supervisor emerged drenched and feeling like an 'idiot' and so vowed to forgo the fry-ups when he returned from Spain.&quotI lent back and the chair leg went and so did I. Everyone laughed but my wife Jenny swam away in embarrassment and although I came up smiling I felt like an idiot.&quotAfter that I put two chairs inside each other but I knew I had to do something.&quotThe 56 year-old was speaking as he celebrated being named Slimming World Target Member of the Year 2005 after losing 11 stone in only ten months. The father of two picked up a prize of £1,000 in a ceremony at the Ritz Hotel in London.
Donald said: &quotI never thought I was that big but I do think you kid yourself. I certainly never thought it was anything to worry about and I just used to say I was big boned.
&quotI was called fatty at school and known as the big fat guy at work. At the time I didn't realise how much it affected my life but now I feel much happier and chirpier.&quotI still look in the mirror and think 'who is that?'&quotMr Bullock, from Coventry, is now down to 15 stone with a 37 inch waist and has kept the excess weight off for two years. He admits everything he ate 'swam in grease' and he would binge on pies, chips, deep fried sausage and bacon butties, washed down by several pints. He said: &quotI'm eating to live now rather than living to eat. It was strange for the first few weeks but now I'm eating properly rather than just healthily.&quotI eat near enough the same foods but they are just prepared differently. Plus I can still have a beer and I enjoy the taste much more now I'm not having ten.&quotWith a 56 inch waist, Mr Bullock was forced to buy his clothes from the catalogue and he can fit into one leg of his trousers.

Picture William Wintercross

13 Sept 2005

Britain's fattest dog couldn't even wag his tail . . . let alone go for walkies. But Sam the Jack Russell is now only half the pet he once was - thanks to a strict diet. The portly five year-old pooch weighed in at a staggering 3st 7lbs after regular feasts of pilchards and chocolate digestives. He couldn't even climb the stairs and had to be winched onto the scales to keep tabs on his ballooning size. Vets believe he would not have lived another six mnonths without having a fatal heart attack. Worried neighbours saved Sam's life after alerting the RSPCA. He has now lost more than half his body weight following a strict diet and exercise regime, and is expected to be named the UK pet slimmer of the year.
Vet nurse Pip Millard who helped Sam slim down, said: &quotHe was definitely the fattest dog in the UK. &quotNo-one has ever come forward with a dog that size before. He was so fat that he couldn't even get on the weigh-in scales in the surgery. &quotHe was owned by an elderly lady who couldn't walk him very far, and he just piled on the pounds." Sam was brought to the RSPCA in Cheltenham in 1999. New owner Neville Lamb said: &quotHe is a totally different dog, and he wags his tail continuously."
ph Gary Roberts
Featxxxx
