Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell, British soldier, c1900. Baden-Powell (1857-1941) won fame during the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902) as the defender of Mafeking which was under siege from 1899 until it was relieved by Field Marshal Roberts on 19 May 1900. In 1910 he founded the Boy Scouts.
