	Charles Rolls on the way to winning the Isle of Man TT race in a 20 hp Rolls-Royce, 1906. Rolls set up business selling French and 	Belgian cars before going into partnership with Henry Royce, forming the motor car and engine 	manufacturing company Rolls-Royce in 1904. The same year Rolls crossed the English Channel by 	balloon, and in June 1910 made the first non-stop double crossing by aeroplane. The following month he 	was killed in a plane crash. 	Freddie Dixon and passenger Walter Denny, Isle of Man sidecar TT race, 1923. Dixon and Denny won the race on this Douglas machine, the 	first sidecar TT, add an average speed of 53.15 mph. The banking sidecar chassis was designed and 	built by Freddie Dixon. The complete outfit could be banked to either side for optimal cornering 	speeds. The sidecar wheel was mounted on a 7inch crank, raised or lowered by the passenger with the 	long lever in front of the wheel. 	Henry Segrave in an 8 cylinder Sunbeam, Isle of Man, 1922. He set the fastest lap of the 1922 Isle of Man TT 	race, but failed to finish the race due to mechanical trouble. Segrave drove racing cars in the 1920s 	as well as making three successful attempts on the Land Speed Record. He was killed on Lake 	Windermere in 1930 while attempting to break the Water Speed Record. 	Jimmy Guthrie on Norton motorcycle, Isle of Man Senior TT Race, 1932. Guthrie finished the race in second place, behind another 	Norton ridden by Stanley Woods. Jimmy Guthrie won a total of six TT victories between 1923 and 1937, 	and was a Norton works rider from 1931. He was unfortunately killed at the German Grand Prix in 1937, 	and a memorial to him is sited at the point on the TT course where he retired from his last race in the 	event. 	BMW Motorbike and sidecar combination, 1957. Germany's Fritz Hillebrand and Manfred Grunwald, the 1957 125cc World Sidecar 	Champions in action. Grunwald leans out to keep the machine balanced as it negotiates an S-bend. They 	won the Isle of Man Sidecar TT in both 1956 and 1957. Hillebrand was killed when the pair were 	involved in an accident in a race at Bilbao, Spain at the end of the 1957. As a result Grunwald then 	retired. McIntyre takes an S-bend.<br>This picture well illustrated the tight bend at Quarter Bridge as Scotland's Bob McIntyre, on a Gilera 500, taken in in the Senior International Tourist Trophy Motorcycle race at the Isle of Man 7th June 1957<br>He broke the race record with an average speed of 98.99 miles per hour.  He also broke the lap record by being the first person to make a lap at the average of 100 mph.  Later he set the new lap record of 101.03 mph.
