Nurse Beatrice Narh-Saam cradles the baby girl, named Osie by nurses, who was found abandoned in a stairwell just hours after she was born, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. The baby was found last night in a block of flats in Burrage Road, south-east London.

* ... by a resident and taken to the hospital by police. Nurses named her Osie after Osie Okonkwo, the registrar on duty at the time. The name means good news in a Nigerian tribal language. Police have urged the baby's mother to come forward.
